Graduates of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff / Emory School of Nursing are forefront leaders that are also much honored for their service as excellent role models in the nursing practice and recognized the world over - much like their mother patron.

Nell Hodgson Woodruff had a passion for nurse caring ever since she was a little girl. She started to fulfill her promise of service when she entered training at the St. Mary's Hospital in Athens Georgia, but stopped from her nursing studies when she became wife to Mr. Robert Woodruff. During the First World War though, Nell Woodruff recalled her calling and volunteered as an aid to the Red Cross nurses. To be able to help train other nurses, Nell also took up an additional training of 80 diligent hours. Her active service soon earned her authorization to be a nurses' aide in any of the United States military hospitals.

Mrs. Nell Woodruff's career and service flourished in 1932 when she began as volunteer at the Emory University Hospital. The Emory immediately recognized her excellent skills and allowed (only) her to work in the maternity ward.

When the Second World War broke, Mrs. Woodruff again donated her service to the Red Cross and in the US hospitals while also recruiting other women to nurse the wounded.

Her undying devotion to nurse care made her the first ever female member of the Emory Hospital Administration Committee, and soon enabling her to establish the Emory (University) School of Nursing. Mrs. Nell Woodruff was also named as an honorary member of the Emory Nurses' Alumni Association in 1946, then an honorary member of the Georgia Nurses Association. Finally, in the year 1954, the President Eisenhower appointed Mrs. Nell Hodgson Woodruff as the American delegate to the World Health Organization.

Mrs. Nell Woodruff's commitment to the nursing service stamped her name permanently in history when she became honored by the Emory University Board of Trustees renaming the Emory (University) School of Nursing into the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in 1967. And until these days, Nell Hodgson Woodruff / Emory (University) School of Nursing continues to carry the name and the service as it fully invests its excellence in the scholarship of discovery, teaching, and application in acute care settings, home, and the community.

In the high rise segment of the Philadelphia condo market, many such buyers will focus on The Phoenix condominiums at 1600 Arch St. Just a few blocks from Hahnemann, The Phoenix offers a variety of sized condo units, along with a 24 hour doorman, and parking. From studios to large three bedroom penthouse units, The Phoenix certainly has the proximity and the security that many buyers find appealing. In addition to the on-site gym, additional storage, The Phoenix has a Starbucks Coffee shop within its common areas. Also, The Ellington at 1500 Chestnut St. with its plethora of affordable one bedroom condos and tax abatement, makes it a logical choice for incoming Hanneman students and faculty. Also, The Grande at 111 S. 15th St. is an option, not to mention the higher-end Ritz Carlton condos.

In the brownstone/ low rise segment of the market, buyers may find a variety of uniquely styled studio and one bedroom units strewn about the area. Characterized by lower condo fees, no doorman, and usually no parking, the option for unique, one-of-a kind space can be very attractive for those looking for something a bit unique.

I find that security and proximity to Hahneman University Hospital always ranks high when examining the priorities of these buyers. Since many are unsure of the late night schedule that may keep, and may be unfamiliar with the areas in which they seek to purchase, proximity and security are usually buyers top concerns. Certainly a nice interior with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops don't hurt the equation.

Generally speaking, price ranges for one bedroom condominiums in the area range from the low 0,000 range, up to 0,000 depending upon the building, interior condition, and location of the areas condos. Universities serve a very important function in our society. Not only are they are place of learning but also many times universities have hospitals or health clinics that also offer many different types of health and medical services. The typical university hospital is very much similar to a standard private or public established hospital. They are just as equipped with not only the biomedical technology but also with the qualified health care professionals to provide the best health care to individual patients. One medical device that has started to become quite useful in the university setting is the pulse oximeter. A pulse oximeter is a medical and health device that measures pulse rate and blood oxygen saturation with accuracy and speed. Blood oxygen saturation refers to what professionals better know as SpO2. SpO2 is the percentage of oxygen in the hemoglobin or the blood. This number is very significant to those individuals who have varying health conditions that require careful and close monitoring of their SpO2 levels. The pulse oximeter is specifically made to utilize the latest in infrared technology in order to get the measurements of SpO2 for not only health care professionals but also regular home consumers. Other functions that a pulse oximeter provides is perfusion index capabilities. Perfusion index is a special number that refers to the relative strength of a heart beat or pulse. Again, for different people with varying health conditions the monitoring of this perfusion index number is critical to healthy functioning.

University settings have particularly utilized the portable pulse oximeter devices that have as of recent hit the medical device market. With the advent of new portable chip technology the old oximeter devices that were found in most hospitals and clinics has now been transformed into a portable medical device that is only a fraction of the size of a cell phone. What makes the ability of the pulse oximeter to be portable is the fact that it can be taken wherever the university health care individuals desire to go. For example, if there are on staff physicians who go from patient room to patient room in order to diagnose different patients, they can simply take the oximeter device with them and easily check the vital signs of patients. This is very beneficial to the physician because he doesn't need to worry about wires or the heaviness of previous generations of pulse oximeter devices. He can simply wear the pulse oximeter around his neck via a lanyard and utilize the device wherever he desires to go. The portable pulse oximeter has also garnered great admiration from medical university students due to not only the ease of use of the device but also the cost effectiveness. Due to the advent of the new chip technology the oximeter has not only decreased dramatically in size but it has also dropped significantly in price. This in turn allows many university student who particularly would not be able to afford such a device to have access to this powerful vital sign monitoring device.
